SuperBat Returns with an Epic Design Upgrade
Fan-favorite artist Dan Mora has once again captured the hearts of DC enthusiasts with his latest artwork featuring SuperBat, the hybrid of Superman and Batman. This new piece showcases a subtle yet impactful design change that has fans buzzing with excitement. With a new DC villain looming on the horizon, speculation is rife about whether this artwork hints at SuperBat’s long-awaited return to the comic book world.
The Unveiling of a New SuperBat Design
On September 4, 2024, Dan Mora delighted fans by posting new artwork on Instagram that spotlights the beloved SuperBat, a character that, though not long-lived, has left a lasting impression. The most notable design change in this version is the addition of Superman’s iconic red cape, a welcome upgrade to the character’s costume.
Historically, SuperBat was portrayed without a cape, a curious omission considering both Superman and Batman typically don one. Mora humorously acknowledged this oversight in his Instagram caption, writing, “It was obvious, I know.” Fans have enthusiastically embraced this change, celebrating the artist’s decision with an outpouring of support.
The Iconic Design: A Nod to SuperBat’s Origins
The fusion of Batman and Superman first appeared in “Batman/Superman World’s Finest #4,” a creation by Mark Waid and Dan Mora. In this storyline, the heroes combine forces by using Green Lantern’s Power Ring, along with mystical energies, to tackle the Justice League members under mind control. This union resulted in a unique costume that seamlessly blended elements from both iconic characters, featuring a red full-face cowl/helmet and a symbol merging their emblems.
Mora’s latest artwork retains these design elements but adds the much-anticipated cape. The power of Green Lantern’s ring is vividly illustrated through a green glow that permeates the SuperBat costume, highlighting the hero’s legs and arms. Batman’s utility belt has also been transformed from its classic yellow to a striking radioactive green, and SuperBat is depicted with both a gun construct and Batarang constructs. The post quickly went viral, amassing over 32,000 likes and hundreds of comments, underscoring the fans’ appreciation for SuperBat’s revamped look.

Is SuperBat Set to Battle KONFUSION?
While Dan Mora has not confirmed the return of SuperBat in the current comic series, the introduction of an Earth-3 version in Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell’s “Superman #18” (2024) hints at exciting possibilities. This Earth-3 SuperBat, known as KONFUSION, is distinct from the combined forms of Ultraman and Owlman, leaving fans eager for more details about this mysterious character. KONFUSION’s arrival opens the door for Superman and Batman’s fusion to make a comeback and face this new, intriguing villain.
