A New Challenger in Gotham: Commander Star’s Arrival
Gotham City has long been protected by its iconic hero, Batman. However, this December, a fresh face is poised to challenge the Dark Knight’s dominance. Introducing Commander Star, a new character set to debut in the highly anticipated story arc, “The Dying City.” This saga begins with Batman #153 and promises a thrilling narrative that could rival the most legendary Bat-tales.
Upcoming Release Schedule
The conclusion to this gripping storyline will unfold in Batman #157, releasing this December. The arc kicks off with issues #153 and #154, marking a shift to a bi-weekly release schedule starting in October to sustain the momentum of the unfolding drama.
The Dying City: A Plot Thick with Intrigue
The “Dying City” arc is set to deliver an intricate plot featuring a conspiracy by the Riddler, the enigmatic Court of Owls, and the shocking murder of one of Gotham’s most esteemed citizens. These elements guarantee a storyline filled with unexpected twists that will test Batman’s limits. Adding to the intrigue is the introduction of Commander Star, a new hero whose presence challenges the Dark Knight, setting the stage for a confrontation of epic scale.

Has Batman Finally Met His Match?
As the debut of Commander Star approaches in Batman #153, little is known about this enigmatic character. However, hints from future story details suggest that this new hero may be a catalyst for unrest, potentially stirring Gotham’s citizens against both Bruce Wayne and Batman. With a new Wayne Enterprises initiative aimed at improving the city, Commander Star might harness populist sentiments to rally the masses.
Despite being a novel character, Commander Star’s name and attire evoke memories of an earlier DC hero, Commander Steel. This raises the possibility of a connection that could offer fans more insight into Commander Star’s origins. The original Commander Steel, created by Gerry Conway and Don Heck, debuted in 1978’s Steel: The Indestructible Man #1. Designed as DC’s counterpart to Captain America, Commander Steel was soldier Hank Heywood, who was enhanced with experimental steel implants after a wartime injury.

DC’s New Hero and Potential Links to the Past

Over the years, the mantle of Commander Steel was passed down through the Heywood lineage, with Henry Heywood III and Nathan Heywood stepping into the role as members of Justice League Detroit and the modern Justice Society of America, respectively. Whether Commander Star shares any lineage or connection with the WWII hero or his descendants remains unknown. Nevertheless, his presence in the “Dying City” arc promises to present Batman with a formidable challenge.
Batman #157 will be available from DC Comics on December 4th.
